At Billingshurst Primary Academy, learning behaviours are central to developing confident, independent and reflective learners, underpinned by the core values of Ambition, Belonging and Courage.
These behaviours are taught through the school’s four Learning Gears: TEAM, Self Managers, Thinking and Questioning, and Reflecting on Learning. Embedded across all areas of school life, the gears provide a consistent language for learning and help pupils understand how to learn effectively.
Each gear focuses on key skills: collaboration and communication (TEAM), independence and resilience (Self Managers), curiosity and critical thinking (Thinking and Questioning), and self-assessment and improvement (Reflecting on Learning).
Reinforced by the school’s expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Safe, this approach creates a positive learning culture where pupils take ownership of their learning, engage thoughtfully with others, and develop the skills needed to succeed beyond the classroom.
