Outdoor Learning

At Billingshurst Primary we are very fortunate as we have a fabulous outdoor space. We are set on the hillside with extensive grounds and games areas. Children access these at playtime, lunchtime and in learning time.

Reception class have their own dedicated outdoor space with a play area, climbing equipment, vegetable and flower gardens and conker trees. Years 1 to 6 have four playgrounds, an extensive field, an environmental area, garden area, outdoor classroom, reading garden and a range of substantial climbing equipment and a path that leads around the boundary. All children access the outdoors in all weathers.

We are developing our grounds all the time. Our wonderful BPA Bees have funded the pathway, reading garden, the climbing equipment and the environmental area. We will be developing other smaller garden areas, designed by and developed by the children in the future.

Year 5 and Year 6 both take part in residential visits. Year 5 attend Lodge Hill, stay one night and take part in numerous outdoor activities. Year 6 go on their residential to Tile Barn in the New Forest.

The outdoors really matters to our children; they love being outside. We promote this and support all our children to be healthy, active and love the world outside the classroom.
